“Mama! Did you know that I am a Princess?”

“Why yes, baby, I did know that!”

“See my pretty skirt?!  Look, I can twirl!”

“I see that! So lovely!”

“I love being a Princess, Mama!”

“I know you do baby.  And you’re such a pretty one at that…”

This is a typical conversation between me and my now four-year old daughter.  Yes, that is right, today she is FOUR.

I am not sure how I feel about this.  On the one hand I love her being this age, with all the dressing up and playing and cuteness of well, a four-year old girl!  But on the other hand I keep wondering just where my baby went.

I do get small glimpses when she sleeps or fusses, of the baby she once was, but a baby she certainly is not.  And yes, as is evidenced by the above, I do call her “baby” quite a bit but that is just a little nickname that I cannot seem to stop using.

And most babies do not dress themselves or get their own yogurt for breakfast or go to school or tell you the jigsaw puzzle you are working on is a “Rectangle!” or go on and on about the Barbie movies that their Daddy bought for them.

Yeah, most “babies” don’t do any of those things.

But you know what I have to say here, right? She will still ALWAYS be my baby, no matter what. That is simply a fact.

She is currently obsessed with Princesses and her party will be that theme on Saturday.  I also asked her a few questions about her favorite things right now…

How old are you today: FOUR!! (holds up four fingers)

What is your favorite color? Pink!

What is your favoirte food? macaroni and cheese

What is your favorite t.v. show? Mickey Mouse

Who is your favorite Princess?  Well now it is Aurora but it used to be Cinderella

What is your favorite game to play? Princess tent (she likes to play inside her princess tent with toys, etc)

What is your favorite dessert? Lollipops!

What is your favorite holiday? My birthday!

Who is your best friend? Sydney

Who do you love? Sydney.  Oh and Mom!

What do you think you will like about being four? Playing with my new My Little Ponies that light up and talk – I saw them on the t.v.!
(uh oh, back to Toys R Us I go!) 😉

Yes, today is her birthday.  My sweet Princess baby who loves snacks even more than mac n’ cheese (I promise you) and who still twirls and knots her hair when tired and keeps us all on our toes.

Happy Birthday, my sweet Katie Kay.  I love you so…
