It Was Mine

a view during my run on Saturday…

I could barely feel my toes at the beginning. So cold.

I scanned the crowd and saw so many others with the “right” running clothes.

1300 people.

I was ONE of them.

I heard the horn and my legs went. And went. I could feel my heart beating in my chest. Alive.

I breathed the cold air. In. Out. In. Out. I saw the white air in front of me as I went.

People passed me. I passed people.

I looked down and remembered they were MY feet. They were my legs. My muscles. My goals.

I heard the familiar songs in my ears that kept me going. That made me go faster.

I ran.

I made it my race and only mine.

I turned the corner and my eyes focused on it. “FINISH”

My brain said, “go faster” so I did.

My shoe hit the other side of the line and there were strangers everywhere.

My race was done.

Faster than I’d hoped.

It was a REALLY good run.

It was my best run yet.

It was mine.
