Last week was one of some major milestones for my middle child.  He lost his second top tooth, taking his classic first-grader lisp to the next level – one of epic proportions, I must add.  But even though I can’t always understand him that well right now, I don’t care because it’s so damn cute!

Then. THEN!  On Thursday evening his Daddy took the training wheels off his bike and off he went.

See:

I know, so stinkin’ cute, right?

Next week he’ll be asking for the car keys.  Or something like that.

This kid fills me with a ton of emotion right now.  He’s challenging at times but as I am figuring out, he has good reason to be.  He’s had some “behavioral” stuff going on for a while now* and after talking to his pediatrician and a few friends and family members, we’ve decided to talk to additional professionals about it.  Primarily so that we can help him to cope with certain situations in life AND of course, so that we (meaning mostly Tim and I) can know how to deal with things when they come up.

He’s SUCH a sweet and snuggly kid but man, certain things just REALLY set him off.  And some things really freak him out and affect him in ways that I just cannot understand without getting some help.

So that is what we are going to do for my boy that MUST have hugs and kisses in multitudes before bed and before he leaves for school, but also tends to not like me and other people some of the time.  Truthfully, he and I butt heads from time to time and I want to eliminate that as much as possible.  I would rather only have hugs and kisses.

p.s. Currently reading The Highly Sensitive Child because I think this may be what is going on with him.  If anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear about it…

*This has been on my heart and in my mind for a while but I was not really ready to share until now…  the fact of the matter is I am blessed with three extraordinary children, just in different ways…
