Motherhood in a Picture

I think When Dickens wrote the first line of A Tale of Two Cities, he wasn’t really talking about life in that era, but rather Motherhood in general. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Pretty fitting, huh?

I have had days when I have wanted to pull all my hair out and run for the childless hills but I have also had days where I had absolutely no idea that my heart could almost explode with joy. And of course those are the times I choose to remember and hold on to. Days when a picture like this can be captured.
This is me with my son Benjamin near his first birthday. I love how we are looking away together and the simplicity of our embrace. Most of all I love those cute baby legs and his chubby little hand on my arm. And, his “lovie” (one in which he still holds on to even now, at 4 years old) is right there on the ground next to us. Motherhood means many things to me but most of all it means loving and guiding your children.

I post this picture for two reasons… one to remind myself of how quickly they grow and how we should cherish ALL the moments. Yes, even the not-so-good ones…And two, because 5 Minutes for Mom is hosting a photo contest for a little giveaway (ok, it’s kinda big – $1,000) and who am I to pass that up?
