Dentistry 101

Today The B Man (Ben’s new blog nickname, in which the “B” does not only stand for Ben but it also stands for Boss… trust me, it fits…) had his first dentist appointment today. He did really well. All they did was x-ray his teeth, count them (he has 20) and inspect them.

While at the dentist I had a revelation – X-Rays are REALLY awesome! Right there in front of me was a picture of Ben’s baby teeth AND his adult teeth, below those. The fact that you can see the teeth that he will someday have is like the coolest thing ever! I mean, really I was so blown away by these images! I also learned that in a little while his teeth should spread out some to accomodate those new choppers and they informed me that it should look like a little picket fence in his mouth. Not sure how I feel about that, but thanks for the heads up!
Some of you may be wondering what’s up with the sunglasses, because as God as my witness, I myself have never seen anyone sit in a dentist chair wearing sunglasses before (except for maybe Stevie Wonder, but then I have never seen him in a dentist chair…). Anyway, it’s because they are very thoughtful at our dentist and realize that some kids may not like the bright light that they shine down upon you during the check-up and so they provide these lovely “On The Border” freebie sunglasses for children to wear. What a “bright” idea! Oh, I crack myself up.

I would say it was a sucessful first visit, especially for The B Man, considering he received 3 Cars stickers, one Hershey’s kiss, and a Winne the Pooh toothbrush at the dentist office. Then, he got to go to Chick Fil A for lunch to eat his favorite chicken nuggets, play in the playscape and share an ice cream cone (with yours truly). All in all I would say going to the dentist is a pretty good gig, wouldn’t you??
