Today is my girl’s birthday.  I already gushed about having a daughter last week so today, I just want to talk about her. The little person I know who is 6 years old today and means so much to me, her mother.

Katelyn Cecilia was born on a Thursday morning via scheduled c-section.  I remember how relieved I was when the doctor was done pushing and pulling on my abdomen, pulled her out and confirmed that she was, in fact, a girl.

Our first meeting.

Once in recovery, I was able to hold her for the first time as a sweet, older nurse ran around the room, trying to get her to latch on to my breast and at some point washed and combed her hair.  The nurse kept talking about her chubby cheeks and calling her a name that was probably Cajun slang because I could not really understand what she was saying.  That may also have had to do with the strong narcotics I was on.

At one point while waiting to be wheeled down the bright hallway to our room, I was comforting my baby girl as she cried.  She found her lungs quickly and wailed.  I was “shushing” her as I laid there, still half out of it.  See?

Our second meeting.

What I did not know then was her crying was essentially foreshadowing for her knack of showing off her exuberant personality!  This child has never been short on that. Katie-Kay, Kate, Kay Kay, “The Bizzle” (don’t ask, don’t tell), my Bizzy-Bee has always been very outgoing and funny.  She’s also one to tell you like it is – she doesn’t “sugar coat” things.  She’s had to speak up for herself a few hundred times as the youngest and only girl. My mom calls her a “spitfire” and separate people who barely know her have told me that I probably won’t have to worry about her too much someday… as in she will be able to take care of herself just fine.

She has sass and easily makes friends.  She loves baked goods and fruit.  (she could live off of those two things, I’m pretty sure).  These things may also prove without a doubt, that she is my daughter.

She HATES being left out. (also like me) and will even conquer very tall water slides at age 5 to guarantee that she is not. Hashtag, #NoFear.

She probably has THE best laugh ever.  Her father and I delight in it (especially him).

She’s learning to read and is all about Kindergarten.

She still completely adores horses and is now taking riding lessons twice a month.  I’m not sure what she enjoys more, the riding or taking care of the animals. Her favorite pony is “Smoking Joe” and she calls him “Smoky”.

She’s discovered Phineas and Ferb thanks to her brothers and loves to sing the silly songs from the show.

She is not a big fan of broccoli but she’ll eat some to get dessert.

She likes to play with her toy horses, or LEGO with her brother Gavin, and Minecraft too. She also likes to play outside, ride her bike and do anything in water.

She has her Dad’s blue eyes but my chin and cheeks and a freckle on her forehead that we call “Mr. Freckle” (how appropriate).

She’s still my baby girl and always will be, even though it’s hard to believe six years went by so fast…

Happy 6th Birthday to my sweet, spunky, beautiful (inside and out) little girl!
