You CAN Teach a New Dog Old Tricks!

August 31, 2014 by Elaine

One afternoon last week it was just about cool enough to play outside.  So I encouraged dragged all my boys (including the canine one) to come outside and play.   We had received this wonderful KaBOOM! Go Out & Play backpack from Imagine Toys with all kinds of goodies, including a disc.

And, we have a new doggie that is learning to fetch so I thought, surely we can have an epic disc throwing/catching session with Ollie!

Okay, so maybe it was not that epic but he did kind of get the hang of it.  And it was still a ton of fun!

See photographic proof below.

I fall more in love with this dog every day.  In fact, he’s kind of becoming “my” dog.

He’s really a little too small yet to handle this large of a disc but he gave it a good try.  Plus, the kids didn’t give him much of break so…

And the kids had a great time with some of the other play supplies, including the jump rope and the sidewalk chalk.  (note: we LOVE sidewalk chalk around here since we have a huge driveway that is perfect for it).

The kit also game with a book with so many fun ideas for getting outside and playing, which I LOVE.  As soon as it cools off more we plan to randomly pick a page every afternoon!

So you know, come November… 😉

Thank you so much to Imagine Toys for the great play kit and for encouraging outdoor play!  These days kids can get so caught up in playing games and other things on devices or watching t.v.,  that they forget how wonderful it can be to do simple but fun things outside.   That is why I really love this push for more good, old-fashioned play.  Kids these days definitely NEED this for sure!

KaBOOM! is the national non-profit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most. They have partnered with Imagine Toys to bring you the Go Out and Play Collection, which aims to get families outside and give kids the balance of active play that they need to thrive. Since 1996, KaBOOM! has has mapped over 100,000 places to play, built more than 2,400 playgrounds, and successfully advocated for play policies in hundreds of cities across the country. A percentage of each purchase from the Go Out and Play Collection goes back to KaBOOM! For more information, visit Kaboom.org.
