We were not expecting you…

January 31, 2014 by Elaine

Old Man Winter found his way to South Louisiana, which I can tell you right now, from my four winters here, does not usually happen.

Earlier this week he took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in the swamp.  Maybe he was craving gumbo…

Anyway, he brought with him freezing temps typicllay unknown around these parts and some white stuff.  It was mostly frozen rain and sleet but the kids did not care, it resembled snow and doggonit, they were going to play in it!

And before you think it, No, my southern kids DO NOT have winter weather appropriate attire and YES, my middle son is wearing his sister’s hat and is not wearing socks.

Oh and yes, those are socks on their hands instead of gloves…

What? It’s usually 55 or 60  here this time of year. Gimme a break! 😉

My kids had socks on their hands too. And I had to remind them to put their coats AND shoes on before going out.

    Oh, that is fun!
Old Man Winter makes himself comfortable in Canada – well, in my part of Canada, at least. I say you have gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to gear. By the time spring arrives, my guys are usually wearing mismatched mitts and gloves. The socks were a great idea! 🙂

Old Man Winter has pitched a tent here in Chicagoland and has definitely worn out his welcome. I’m glad your southern kids got to have some fun in the snow!
I adore that shot of your daughter catching snowflakes in her mouth. Breathtaking!

hahaha. I love all the makeshift winter gear. As our winter here has stayed cold I’ve been progressively adding to our stash. And no socks. That’s great 🙂

That must have been so cool for your kids! This weather lately is strange and unsettling! Our temps in NY warm up this weekend but next week isn’t looking great.

I know some of us northerners may be giving you all a hard time for freaking out over a bit of snow, but I TOTALLY GET IT. You’re not used to this. You’re used to warmth and no snow. In fact, you chose a life that way. (which after a week in Florida…siiigh)
So I just want to say that I’m glad you’re all ok and I’m glad you got beautiful photos, and that I hope our crappy vortex weather stays up here for the rest of winter.
