Run Lainey, Run!

November 10, 2008 by Elaine

So, I thought I would post a little list of what I have learned from my running so far. (P.S. I stole the title of this post from this chick from a comment she left me last week. I like to give credit where credit is due… and well, I just couldn’t resist using it!)

1. It’s REALLY hard to get up and run (or do just about anything) at 6:15 in the morning.

2. Stretching before AND after is a good thing.

3. As long as I have the RIGHT music on my iPod Shuffle, for example U2’s “Vertigo,” I can run longer. (note to self: do not leave said shuffle at home on kitchen counter, because then running is MUCH harder…)

4. Running on the treadmill is EASIER than outside.

5. Big XL sized t-shirts are TOO hot for me while running.

6. A good sports bra makes ALL the difference.

7. Determination goes a LONG way.

8. It’s like any exercise, that first 15 minutes or so is HARD but after then it gets easier.

9. You CAN sweat from your arms.

10. Mind over MATTER is very important.

So… I am 4 weeks in and I will keep on keepin’ on. And hopefully I will start shedding some pounds soon too. Unfortunately I believe my chocolate addiction and plentiful Trader Joe’s snacks have NOT helped that pursuit. Apparently I need some motivation to keep from stuffing my mouth too…

I trained for and ran the Cowtown Marathon in ’98. I did my long Saturday runs with a large training group and my daily runs in the early mornings with a woman who lived nearby. I hated every moment of the early morning Janurary runs. Every stinking morning. The marathon itself was nothing compared to the training. Keep going!

Hey! I am proud of you. I know those pounds will come soon. I do challenge you to give up sweets until Turkey-Day and then until Christmas (except for 2-3 key days). I did this one thing (17 days ago) and I have lost 4 pounds! -JenFlemB

Run, Forrest, Run! Just keep running. I find it easier to do an exercise program than to cut back on eating my favorite foods. Why is that?!

I am super impressed! I’ve heard that it takes 28 days to make something a habit, to you’re there now. Awesome.

Do you really go by Lainey?

And seriously, don’t you think it helps to clear your head?? I am LOVING it!! 🙂

#1 – forget about it! Have I not told you about the no running before 9am rule!!!

#5 – go get yourself some good shirts that have “wicking” fabric. Cotton is horrid for sweat…the wicking fabric takes the moisture away from your skin. It’s worth the cost. TRUST me 🙂

And #4 – yes, yes it is. Here, it’s also far warmer and there is no snow/ice to break your leg on. I need a treadmill!!

Go Lainey go!!! Keep at it girl you are doing awesome!

Good Job!! Don’t you LOVE the shuffle?? It is the best thing! I was running with the HUGE ipod I have and it just wasn’t cuttin it!

It is so hard to not eat the good stuff!! My problem is I feel I am justified BECAUSE I exercised 🙂 haha I am terrible!

You go girl!!!! Funny that you think it is easier to run on the treadmill then outside I think the opposite and a good sports bra is a MUST!!!

Good job! Try not to increase your mileage too fast, build up slowly.

I think the treadmill is easier but ouside is less boring. Unless I get the treadmill with the tv….

You are motivating me to get my other blog up to date, I haven’t posted since July…

Great tips. Keep up the good work. I need to be running outside more in prepartion for the race, but I have been on the treadmill exclusively so far. Let’s do a 5K together in the new year!

    Great job, girl!!

I need more sports bras…tight ones!! hee!!

I’m back to trying the running thing. I ran with my husband this morning and I would’ve given up and walked about 14 times had he not been with me.

I do agree about the treadmill…I was up to 2 miles on it, but no where near that outside…I’ll get there.

What kind of distance are you up to now?

    keep it up!!

  27. Jaimee says

    November 12, 2008 at 3:24 pm

Good for you! Yes, running on the treadmill is so much easier than running outside! I never run outside…But, I guess that will change on Thanksgiving day…hopefully I can make it!

Holy Cow…you are getting up early to run??? Eeek! I could never do that! Amazing!

  28. Trannyhead says

    November 13, 2008 at 4:35 am

See – I’d MUCH rather run outside. Then again – running isn’t really my thing. I’m a biker (cyclist).

And I exercise so that I CAN stuff my face!

Good for you for sticking with it!
