Market-ing in Humidity

July 1, 2014 by Elaine

I don’t like to lie.

I’ve done it, I ain’t no saint.

But the truth always comes out so why lie?

At least this is what I say.

So I’m not going to sugar coat these photos from our little jaunt to our local farmer’s market last weekend.  There are some cute ones and my kids WERE cute at first but I tell y’all what – humidity does things to people.  It makes them mad. And upset.  And mean.  And sweaty.

Not me of course…

(okay fine, me too)

The boys went back and forth and back and forth about wanting a popsicle or a pie from their favorite stands.  I started to bead sweat as they contemplated their decision (you get only one, I said!).  K immediately chose a watermelon popsicle and I ate the rest of it when she didn’t want to (this is the norm, and why I rarely get an extra one for myself).

pastries and flowers – two of my favorite things in one great place!

There are cute kids everywhere.  This one is not mine so even cuter. 😉

We were a cute little family of 4 (Daddy still out of town… is it Sunday yet!?!?!?)

Until the 30 minute mark.  Then we started to melt down, literally.

The boys chose pie.  Ben apple, Gav cherry.

I handed the lady the customary $6. (for two tiny pies).  Supporting local businesses in kinda expensive, yo.

I thought I might want to buy some produce too but all I saw was an abundance of tomatoes (there were other things too but the meltdown was beginning and we have enough tomatoes at our house already and OMG, the humidity!)

Also, face paint?  In this weather? No thanks. (well, really no thanks ever for me, but YKWIM)

So I passed.  (on the produce and the face paint)

We found the swing under the trees and that lasted a few minutes.

Sharing is SO hard!!

We were making memories here people!

Ah parenting, so fun.

Solo parenting, not so fun.

At least not after 4 days.

I do love our local Saturday Farmer’s market at the old horse farm, that we could almost walk to, if we wanted (hard to get over the coulee…)

I’m just not a big fan of humidity.

(and neither are my little kinfolk)

Y’all come visit.  I’ll take you to the awesome farmer’s market!

In October or November.

    Humidity makes me insane.
So I had a face painter at Scarlet’s party, but mainly because we were trading photography for face painting. It was a huge hit but maybe I’m just too old in this department. I just don’t get the excitement about it.
And mine was REALLY talented. I’ll have photos soon!

Ooh, that looks like my kinda place, I want to go! (and I’m super used to humidity and heat, so I’ll survive, maybe even thrive)

I hear ya on the solo parenting!

Dude. Supporting local biz IS ‘spensive. But those popsicles looked amazing. (Suzy does the same with hers- I love it.)

Bahaha! Humidity makes me SO. CRANKY. You’re a brave soul for taking your kids in it. These are cute pictures, though! (And yes, sharing is ridiculously hard. Ahem)

Yeah, we pretty much stick to spring and fall for visiting the market. My kids don’t do heat well and can’t se to grasp the whole “you live in TEXAS, get used to it” thing.

You are not lying girl that heat does some crazy things to people…we went to a fruit and berry patch and the boys were wearing down with the 90 degree heat!

Well, at least you got some awesome pictures! That tree is amazing! And, I’m a no-humidity kind of gal!!! Growing up in San Antonio, I only THOUGHT it was humid! Then I moved to S.E. Texas and was shamed to find out that 70% humidity (in my childhood) was nothin!

Now I avoid outdoors as much as possible and buy my veggies at HEB…..in the air conditioning 🙂

This was cute, I so know what you mean about it looking fun but it’s hot and people get cranky. We have several local farmers markets but I haven’t gotten to one yet, hopefully next week.

Haha! You rock. I love this.
We always have the best of intentions, don’t we?
Personally I could use a little bit of that heat and humidity. It has not felt like summer at all over here. I’m getting angry. Absolutely no opportunities to go swimming yet. Boo.
Beautiful farmer’s market! And fabulous pics!

I don’t mind humidity so much, but I do mind those who mind it. Soooo… that’s why I rarely go outside. All in all, I think you are brave for venturing out with your kids to the market. And great pics as usual!

Humidity is the main reason I can’t leave the west coast. I took a road trip one summer with a friend during college and we went through pretty much the entire southern US. I’m surprised I didn’t melt.

I love farmers markets though. Yay for supporting local business. Even if it does tend to empty the wallet a lot quicker.
