It’s Like Going to the Spa… for my Teeth

July 29, 2008 by Elaine

One day last week while The B Man was at “summer school” and Little G was dropped off at a friend’s house for a little play time with his pal G too (they share a name), I was off to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist. (I know, where else would I get my teeth cleaned right?)

So … I had time in the car BY MYSELF.

This is such a commodity these days. But it’s always so weird at first as I drive off because I SO expect to hear something coming from the back seat and when I hear nothing AT. ALL I am always a little freaked out and have to adjust the rear-view mirror just to make sure it’s ok to crank the music.

Music that is NOT Laurie Berkner. No offense Laurie but I am just a TEENY bit tired of you . Please don’t take it personally. You do have great hair.

Anyway, back to the dentist.

I love my hygentist. She’s the nicest lady ever and we always have a good time catching up between scrapings, polishings and suction time. I mentioned to her that I actually enjoy coming there for my cleanings these days because it’s one of the only times now that I get any “me” time. And my teeth always feel so good and well, clean, afterward. She admitted that I am not the only SAHM who has said this to her. I mean these days I am thinking that every 6 months is too long to wait… sad, I know.

So, I ask you – do you look at a teeth cleaning as “me” time or is it still something you can’t stand? (I used to NOT LIKE it as a kid). I do believe this is what my teeth look like after I leave…

So, to recap, I get like 35 minutes in the car ALONE and happy, clean teeth. It really is a good deal. Dentists everywhere are thanking me for this post. Get thee to the dentist! It’s good for mouth & soul! ; )

Ahh. I love a good teeth cleaning. Really–just like I really love brow waxing. There’s really something wrong with me!

I haven’t thought about it like that.
But now I am off to schedule an appointment.
Because I could really use some “ME” time…and clean teeth…what a bonus!!!

You goofball! I did a post once that included a satirical comment about people who actually like going to the dentist:

    http://wer4.blogspot.com/2007/12/suspicious-minds.html

I HATE going to the dentist. Period. I come out sore and bleeding. Every 6 months.

Have you ever been to the real spa girlfriend? I gotta get down there and introduce you to some real me time.

    🙂

    hee hee!

Someone’s gotta like it. May as well be you! You crack me up. Me? I can’t stand going to the dentist, clean teeth feeling or not. I just don’t like it. Give me a massage instead!

You mean you willingly go to the dentist? Seriously? I only go to the dentist for emergencies. You know, chipped tooth, root canal, etc. The dentist is one of my biggest fears.

Hooray for happy, clean teeth and quiet alone time!

My hygienist annoys me, and I’ve tried switching with no luck! “Ughhh”!

Ummm….sorry, but I’d still rather skip the visit to the dentist. I can think of plenty of other ways to fill my me time!

Okay – you’re a bit crazy! I have NEVER considered going to the dentist as “pleasurable” – even if it is a bit of alone time – NOPE!

And, this, “Music that is NOT Laurie Berkner. No offense Laurie but I am just a TEENY bit tired of you . Please don’t take it personally. You do have great hair.” – was so funny!

Have a good day, Elaine – see you – Kellan

i can honestly say I’ve NEVER read a “the dentist is like a spa day” themed post before… They are thanking you everywhere.

Mostly I’m thanking you for your Laurie comment. Cute, yes… but it gets old SO FAST!

I am very behind on reading posts! Forgive me! 🙂

Good job going to the dentist. Wanna go for me???? 🙂

I LOVE my dentist. And while I may not have kids, I consider it “me” time away from the office! Plus I make a pit stop at Sprinkles Cupcakes on the return trip.

But I don’t let my dentist know that I am ruining all of his hard work. 😉

I am with you, girl!! But I should find a new dentist…mine is only 2 minutes from home…I need more crank-the-music-and-sing-really-loud-drive-time!

Oh Elaine! You crack me up!
Truth is that I do see it a s me time though rather reluctantly.
We no longer have insurance for teeth so it is rather gouging. And after working in the industry I am so bummed about no longer getting free bleaching.

You are so funny though, a “spa” for your teeth, ha, ha!

As I always tell my kids, you are only as pretty as your teeth 🙂
Funny the thrill we get out of being alone ANYWHERE!

You know I don’t have a dentist here? I refused to change any doctors the first few years we were here out of principle. Tried one once in Arlington who mysteriously found 4 cavities in me & 4 in hubby which was the max the insurance covered. I always have gone home to my childhood one since then.
