Nature and Ice Cream

Since it finally stopped raining around here (I know, I know, I’m like a broken record), we’ve been getting outside, thank God!

Yesterday I went for a 2.5 mile  run in the park and it was heaven.  The park was packed with people reading on blankets and throwing Frisbees with their dogs and kids playing and as I ran two long loops around, I smiled at everyone enjoying the gorgeous day.

So, since the kids were out of school today I decided we would get out together too.

We drove to a local area that has nature trails and despite some protesting at first of just going to see “trees and bugs and leaves and stuff”, I think the kids had a good time…

And I KNOW I did.

These two were nature walk buddies…

So I paired up with this cute little guy.

Then, after our walk the kids and I ate McD’s (oh my gah, I cannot believe I just admitted that) and then we ventured to the local ice cream shop for cones for the kids (I only helped K with hers because it was so big), thus cancelling out the walking.

Oh well, it was a good day. :)

p.s. I took ALL of these photos with my phone.  Pretty handy when you’re hiking, etc.  I would hate to trip while wearing my DSLR and mess it up!  These phones are pretty darn cool these days… 😉

p.p.s have you liked The Miss Elaine-ous Life on Facebook yet?

  1. That looks like a good day!
Heck, any outing that ends in ice cream is a good day in my books. :)

  2. Looks like the perfect way to spend the day off. And hey a little McDonalds now and then won’t kill us ;). It has been way too long since I ran

  3. But isn’t that the point of exercising? To be able to enjoy the McD’s guilt-free? Anybody? No? Oh… 😉 Gorgeous pictures!

  4. That ice cream looks FAAAAABULOUS.

  5. I totally thought they were DSLR pics…I guess I forgot what the ol’ link-up was about. BAHAHA! Love the hand-holding pictures! And since when does McD’s serve blue and pink ice cream?!

  6. That pic of the white flowers made me stop and stare! So beautiful. That and that ice cream 😉

I know what you mean about the quality of the pictures! I made a meme from my phone pic this week :)

  7. I want to go next time!!! Ice cream is ALWAYS permitted. ALWAYS and I’ve heard that if you share it, it doesn’t count. Just FYI

  8. LOVE these photos!

  9. Awesome pics. I’m a little jealous now – the Canadian winter has no intention of letting go yet…

  10. I’m with Greta – is the blue and pink ice cream from McDonald’s?? Also, are we supposed to be embarrassed to admit we eat at McDonald’s?

Love your pictures. We had a similar experience a couple years ago, forcing the kids to go on a nature walk at a cool park close by. Now they actually ask if they can go again because they enjoyed it so much!

    • Katie E – no, it’s from a local ice cream shop in town. And no, you do not have to be embarrassed that you eat at McDonald’s. I am just not a fan of their food. :)

And thank you! I find that yes, once kids get out they love it. 😀

  11. Very pretty photos indeed!

  12. love the photos! and if it makes you feel any better, after I taught last night I swung through McD’s drive thru for some, er, goodies. sometimes a coke and some fries is really what a girl needs :)

  13. This whole post makes me smiley. I love it! That is a perfect day! Great walk! Great pics! Great ice cream!

AND YAY!!!!! I am so excited to hear that you can run again. Woohoo!!!!!!!!! That is so exciting for you!
I can’t wait to be able to run outside again (it has been negative temps here and before that I’ve had a sore foot/ankle so I haven’t run in a month-BAH!).

  14. These pictures just makes you want to take a nature walk! Amazing captures!

  15. WOW! I’m impressed with the quality of these pis…they look DSL quality!

  16. That was with your phone? I was totally thinking, good thing she brough her camera! Oops.

We call McD’s Rotten Ronnies here. I think it’s appropriate 😉

  17. What a fabulous day! All that sunshine! I have a confession: Andrew’s had McDonalds once. It’s across the street from Chick-fil-a and we always, always choose CFA because it’s so much better. He asks about it all the time though. I’m going to have to give in soon!

  18. What great pictures! It looks like such a fun day :) I am so jealous of the sunshine!

  19. What wonderful pictures. They make the walk look like a lot of fun!

  20. How fun! Phones are amazing! I thank God for mine or my husband who is a tech junkie therefore banni me from my flip phone! haha

  21. Oh my word it looks so WARM by you! It was -10 here this morning. Our school had to cancel outside recess today and we always send the kids outside!

  22. Totally love that b/w shot on the bridge with the shadows….fabulous composition!

  23. What a FUN time out- I would love to go walking there. I’ll take that ice cream cone too- what a great way to end the adventure.

  24. Looks like you had a really great time. I love how the ice-cream is nearly as big as her head!

  25. Gorgeous pictures! I can’t believe they were from your phone.

Glad the weather cooperated and you were able to get out of the house.

  26. I am jealous of your short sleeves! It was 3 degrees when I got into my car this morning. I ran on the treadmill today. Gah. i need to get back outside…in the warmth!

  27. I did the same with my kids this week, and all I heard from the older one was: ” I want to go on the slide”… so I had keep telling her that after the walk we will go on the slide… Then she totally forgot about the slide and had so much fun playing with rocks and sicks.
    Wonderful shots!
