Dessert Dilema

Okay people. This is serious business. I need help. (but y’all already knew that, right?)

Anyway, I have a little bit of a quandry going on here and I said to myself, “Who better to help me decide than my ‘sweet’ bloggy buddies?”
Let me back up by saying that I have sworn off sweets until Thanksgiving because I was pigging out over here like… well… a piggy. I know, sickening. Let’s face it, I was afraid someone else might eat my Trader Joe’s snacks so I snarfed most of them myself. And well Mr. Will Power and I are NOT getting along so well right now.

But now that the TJ snacks have been severely diminished (I did have a little help…) and after stepping on the scale the other day and almost falling off the one inch buggar, I figured I’d better slow down.

All that being said, I still love pie. I love pretty much any pie except for cherry. CANNOT stand cherry. I am sure a lot of you out there are all “WHA??? YOU NO LOVE CHERRY?” That’s right folks it’s true so get over it and move on ’cause I got stuff that’s gonna make you forget all about that lame cherry junk.
I also A-DORE cheesecake. Like if someone sat me down and said that for the rest of my life all I could eat was cheesecake I would SO be okay with that. Really. I would.

So here’s the deal. I’ve found 3 (count ’em three…) recipes for pie/cheesecake desserts that are options to make on Thanksgiving (God bless the Pilgrims and Indians for sharing the love when they did). However, I cannot make all three because I am making a regular pecan pie and a regular pumpkin pie (per my husband’s request) and also, my taste buds cannot decide. So, I need your pie opinion please (say that 3 times fast!).
Here are our options.
Option #1: Turtle Pumpkin Pie

This one basically has pecans on the bottom, pumpkin pie in the middle and whipped cream and caramel sauce on top. It would be the easiest to make but a little redundant since I am already making pecan and pumpkin pies. But it looks good, doesn’t it?

Option #2 Pumpkin Chocolate Cheesecake

Now this one has chocolate AND cheesecake so I’m a little partial, but still not completely sold. And I am not sure exactly why. I am salivating a lot little right now though.

Option #3 – Pumpkin Cheesecake

Simple and undoubtably delicious. And, if I added a little caramel sauce on top, probably close to perfect.

Certainly you can see why I am in a little pickle here, right? I mean how in the world do I choose? So help me, which one sounds (and looks!) the best to you? My dessert dilema is in your hands. : )

  1. I’m a pumpkin pie purist, just a dollop of whip cream on mine….but I’d go for #3 because i couldn’t mix chocolate and pumpkin, but cheesecake, pumpkin and caramel….oh yeah! πŸ˜‰

  2. Oooooh, #2 baby! I just made some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and they were HEAVENLY! Plus, if you really wanted to you could throw some chopped pecans on top of the chocolate chip layer…oh man, I might need that recipe!

  3. Make all three, send 2 to me.

  4. I would be all over option 2!! Holy hell – two of my favorite things wrapped up in a pie! I would make myself sick eating it all day. Can’t wait to see what you try.. not to mention your gonna have to give us the recipe after showing all those delightful pictures. Good luck!

  5. Definitely Option #2!

It’s funny that you posted about this today, because I am doing “What’s Your Favorite Turkey Day” recipe today for my obligatory, mean NaBloPoMo, post. I would be oh so happy if you came and left the recipe for that because frankly, I need me some Pumpkin Chocolate Cheesecake, thankyouverymuch.

  6. Pumpkin cheesecake with caramel over it. Ooooooh yeah, baby. I think I might need to add that to my menu….

And I have a post about me and my lack of willpower on the back burner over here….

  7. #3/pumpkin cheesecake please.

Will a slice keep until the ornament exchange? :)

  8. You can’t go wrong with chocolate. No matter what the choices, chocolate is always the answer. Always.

Just kidding, actually number 3 looks delicious. They all look good.

  9. Um, yum. Seriously–they all look delicious!

    If I had to pick one…I would go with #1 or #2. Wait, that’s 2…hmm…then #2.

    Or #1.

Can’t wait to see which one is the winner!

  10. No contest…#2 all the way! Sounds delicious!! You’ll have to let us know which one you go with and how it turned out.

  11. Definitely #3 if you are a cheesecake lover. And you’re right, some caramel drizzled over each slice would be heavenly.

  12. oh – it must have chocolate!!!!

  13. Jennifer FlemBorth says:

My vote is #3. I am looking at the pics and thinking that simple is best. I like this post b/c I just facebooked my brothers’ girlfriend to ask about turkey day dessert b/c it’s on my to-do list. Problem- I love pumpkin and pecan pie (btw, I also love cherry) BUT my brother does not like pie at all. I think he does like cheesecake… hmmm… idea there. I was actually thinking of making the pumpkin cake on pioneer woman’s site. BTW, did you give up sweets until turkey-day based on my suggestion? I have lost 4 pounds in three weeks doing just that. Better run!

  14. Oooh, definitely #3. With caramel.

I love cheesecake too. Am also salivating. Mmmmm.

  15. i’m with jen about pumpkin pie… but if you want to spice it up #2 without question… come on by today… i have something special for you…

  16. well I can’t get over the no cherry pie, I CAN’T! You’re crazy! Although I feel the same way about apple pie, yuk! I’d pick the 1st for your pie, i like when the 2 pies get together on Thanksgiving so why not in one pie?

  17. I vote turtle pumpkin pie since you are doing the other traditional ones!

  18. I’ve made one like #2–very yummy but also very rich :)

I’d consider the whole menu–if there is other stuff go traditional πŸ˜‰

  19. #3,I love cheesecake also

  20. I’m just trying to figure out why there is a reason for a choice? Isn’t 1,2,& 3 a choice? If you must only have one of them, I say 2.

  21. omg i LOVE you!! i totally saw number three in a magazine and swore to the hubby i would make it for turkey day – but i can’t remember what magazine it was in!!!

    and if you can’t tell – i vote #3 :)

  22. Thanks for those tips! here are a couple of recipes I found from Snoop Dogg’s wife, Shante. That woman is always cooking on the show and it always looks so good! So I was excited to get my hands on a couple of her dessert recipes. Enjoy!

  23. I say #2, because the chocolate is what sets it apart from pumpkin pie. They all look delicious though.

  24. I would do #3 and use chocolate graham crackers for the crust. A little pumpkin goes a long way and since you are already making the pie…….

  25. I vote #3! I love pumpkin cheesecake!

  26. #2 looks awesome! Its got the best of all the worlds!!

  27. Number one has my vote, yummm. Oh, I hate cherry pie too, if that helps.

  28. I picked the right day to visit your blog! Look at all that stuff! YUM!!! I don’t think you can go wrong, but I’m a little partial to pretty much anything that has chocolate in it….haha :)

  29. Oh, choose pumpkin chocolate cheesecake–and you can always add pecans, too! I think I need that recipe. Ann

  30. What the dilemma? Pumpkin Chocolate Cheesecake you get a little of everything!

    Can I come for dessert?

  31. I’m voting for that pumpkin cheesecake!!!

  32. Pumpkin chocolate, no contest.

  33. yum. pumpkin chocolate cheesecake is my vote…that way you can practice it on your family before you make it for me for my Happy Birthday! πŸ˜‰

  34. Holy hell what a dilemma!!! Seriously I have no idea though I do agree the first one is kind of a combo of the two you are already making…

But then the second two…I just don’t know…really, they both sound divine….but there is chocolate in the second…I vote pumpkin chocolate!

    Whew, that was hard.

And also? I need to eat pecan pie. Really. I cannot die before I eat pecan pie. I just might have to get your recipe and make it. Would you be willing to share?
