Nature and Ice Cream

Since it finally stopped raining around here (I know, I know, I'm like a broken record), we've been getting outside, thank God!

Yesterday I went for a 2.5 mile  run in the park and it was heaven.  The park was packed with people reading on blankets and throwing Frisbees with their dogs and kids playing and as I ran two long loops around, I smiled at everyone enjoying the gorgeous day.

So, since the kids were out of school today I decided we would get out together too.

We drove to a local area that has nature trails and despite some protesting at first of just going to see "trees and bugs and leaves and stuff", I think the kids had a good time...

And I KNOW I did.

These two were nature walk buddies...

So I paired up with this cute little guy.

Then, after our walk the kids and I ate McD's (oh my gah, I cannot believe I just admitted that) and then we ventured to the local ice cream shop for cones for the kids (I only helped K with hers because it was so big), thus cancelling out the walking.

Oh well, it was a good day. :)

p.s. I took ALL of these photos with my phone.  Pretty handy when you're hiking, etc.  I would hate to trip while wearing my DSLR and mess it up!  These phones are pretty darn cool these days... ;-)

p.p.s have you liked The Miss Elaine-ous Life on Facebook yet?

Heck, any outing that ends in ice cream is a good day in my books. :)

  3. But isn't that the point of exercising? To be able to enjoy the McD's guilt-free? Anybody? No? Oh... ;-) Gorgeous pictures!

  7. I want to go next time!!! Ice cream is ALWAYS permitted. ALWAYS and I've heard that if you share it, it doesn't count. Just FYI

  8. Awesome pics. I'm a little jealous now - the Canadian winter has no intention of letting go yet...

  9. I'm with Greta - is the blue and pink ice cream from McDonald's?? Also, are we supposed to be embarrassed to admit we eat at McDonald's?

Love your pictures. We had a similar experience a couple years ago, forcing the kids to go on a nature walk at a cool park close by. Now they actually ask if they can go again because they enjoyed it so much!

    1. Katie E - no, it's from a local ice cream shop in town. And no, you do not have to be embarrassed that you eat at McDonald's. I am just not a fan of their food. :)

And thank you! I find that yes, once kids get out they love it. :D

  16. What a fabulous day! All that sunshine! I have a confession: Andrew's had McDonalds once. It's across the street from Chick-fil-a and we always, always choose CFA because it's so much better. He asks about it all the time though. I'm going to have to give in soon!

  26. I did the same with my kids this week, and all I heard from the older one was: " I want to go on the slide"... so I had keep telling her that after the walk we will go on the slide... Then she totally forgot about the slide and had so much fun playing with rocks and sicks.
    Wonderful shots!
