A friend of mine and I split a 12 week share of CSA (community supported agriculture) from a local farm and besides the beets and too many leeks to use, we've been enjoying it quite a bit.
Yesterday I posted this picture on Instagram and twitter because I was not sure what this was. I assumed it was in the broccoli family but had never seen it before so...
Turns out the farm newsletter calls it ramonesco cauliflower but many people told me it was broccoflower. Either way, it's pretty tasty.
Tonight I made squash with fresh basil and leeks and baked it with olive oil and mozzarella and parmesean cheese. SO. GOOD. And and a super happy smile comes to my face just knowing that all the the produce came from a local farm.
The farm also gives us a lovely bouquet every week and these zinnias were just begging to be photographed.
Do you buy local produce at all? If not, you should try. I promise it tastes better... ;)

You don't like beets? You can send them to me. :) We have 2 garden beds in the backyard. I love growing our own veggies! We usually go to the local farmers market too. Locally grown produce really does taste better!
ReplyDeleteWe buy almost all of our produce from the local farmer's markets from May through October. So awesome.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Romanesco broccoli/cauliflower!!
ReplyDeleteAll those veggies look so good - I can't wait for more to be available up here from the local farms!! (and I'm right there with you on those beets!!)
I so want to do a CSA. But we do grow some veggies in our garden ourselves and try to buy from the local farmer's market in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI love our local farmer's market. It just tastes better coming from there.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to do a CSA, it's just never worked out. I need to get motivated to try it for next week. I buy local as much as I can. I miss the huge Farmer's Market we used to have at our old house.
ReplyDeleteOh I just love this. Nothing like fresh produce (and flowers!) to bring out the food geek in me.
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool! I am counting down the day until the local farmer's market opens around here. Can't wait for those fresh fruits and veggies.
ReplyDeleteI love my little garden.... I eat veggies from it al summer long. And I can't wait for the farmer's market down the street to open on Saturday.... I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe have several farmer's markets here in Michigan, but thanks to our weather it takes longer for us to grow fresh produce. When it's in season, I am all over it!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried leeks and I'm not sure what to even do with them.
Those zinnias are gorgeous! Great pictures!
How wonderful! Love all that freshness. Those zinnias are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Flower shots and the veggies YUM.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers and shots.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Brocciflower either! Sounds yum, though! And love your flower shots. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI told the kids we would go to the Farmer's Market this weekend. Now if I can just make myself get out of bed on Saturday morning.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous veggies and flowers! I just adore the lighting in your photographs.
ReplyDeleteI do in the summer but in the winter, um, pickings are slim locally. Ha ha ha! :)
I've never tried CSA produce but we do grow a lot of our own stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove those flowers.
Wow your photos are gorgeous! We love local farmer's markets and buy local whenever we can!
ReplyDeleteSteph
I really wish we had something like that here. Even a farmers market would be nice- unfortunately nothing grows here :) So I'm stuck trying to find organic stuff at the market. Seems the buyers for the stores are not too health conscious- they don't stock a lot of that stuff. What you describe sounds so wonderful- if we had it available I would love to participate. Loving your blue jar too- totally made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI keep planning to join a CSA but have yet to do it. Those flowers are beautiful--really great photos!
ReplyDeleteI would love to join a CSA. I'm sure there's one around here. I need to do some research! And I've never heard of that broccoflower thing either, but it sound good! Those zinnias are beautiful!
ReplyDeletelove your photos..every one!
ReplyDeleteLovely, you! We did a CSA last year and loved every delicious bite of it, too!
ReplyDeleteI love that you're part of a CSA. I think most of the veggies and fruit we buy are local here but when we get back to Canada, I really want to do the CSA thing - I had looked into it before we moved.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the ramonesco broccoli! So yummy!!!
And a fresh bouquet of flowers every week?!? AWESOME
