Can you say "Mastitis?"

So, the last week or so has been a little daunting. I ended up with an infection (called mastitis) in my right nursing unit (a.k.a. boob) and haven't felt that sick in quite a while. Funny how just a little, localized infection gives you a fever and makes you feel just like you have the flu with the achiness and all! Thank God Tim was able to leave work early last Friday to cart me to the doctor so I could procure the much needed antibiotics to fight it off.

It started with pain earlier in the week, while nursing Gavin and by Friday morning I felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck! Fortunately I was able to pump through it and am still successfully nursing the little man. I felt better by Saturday afternoon so the stuff they gave me was fast-acting! You can't keep a woman with two small children down - no way!

If anyone is wondering - we don't start Gavin's P.T. until a week from today, so there's no update on that yet. He has been turning his head more the other way, but the actual shape of it still looks the same, so we'll see what they say next week.

No pics tonight - I actually have not taken any of Gavin since the bumbo chair. I missed an opportunity to scrapbook this weekend since I was sick and haven't had a chance to really do any work since Gavin was born so I am feeling really behind. I hope I can get some work done soon and try to catch up.

Bumbo Baby

So we tried out this new chair over the weekend that we bought for Gavin and although he still needs to get a little better control of his head, he seems to really like it! It's called a Bumbo Chair and it's just too cute to see a little baby "sitting" and he loves to sit and look at his feet and hands while he is in it.

Ben likes to sit in it too and actually fits it it somewhat. He likes to say that he and Gavin can share it. He also likes to "play" on Gavin's play mat, although here, he did not really want me to take his picture. Ben is so funny because he also likes to say that he is "little" and Gavin is "tiny."

In other news, Ben did really well potty training on Sunday (still no #2) but he tinkled many times, mostly because he received a Thomas sticker after every time - hey whatever works, right?!

Lastly, Tim is Harry Potter obsessed right now. He's starting over from book #1, after reading the last one in a day and a half. Needless to say he was ready to find out how it all ended but isn't truly ready to let go! So, he shall begin again.

"Head Case"

Well, we had Gavin's 2 month check up this morning (including 4 shots - oh how I hate watching that!) and he weighs 11 pounds 2 ounces and (a gain of 3 pounds in 1 month!). He's doing really well except for one little bugaboo - an issue with his head formation. Pretty much since birth, he has only turned his head to the right (his right) and it is causing his head to form incorrectly. It's flat on the back where he always lays and is not forming correctly on the opposite front side either, as it is not filling out as well as the other side. So... we have to start with physical therapy, probably next week, to make him turn his head the other way and if that doesn't fix the issue he may have to wear one of those kind of funny looking helmets for while to get things corrected. I was feeling guilty for not "catching" it myself but as the pediatrician said, it's his job to catch something like that since he's the doc! Anyway, please just pray that it easily works itself out.

Today was Tim's 33rd birthday and despite the stress of the day (for both of us) I managed to make him a cake and Ben was again most happy that it was someone's birthday (mostly for the cake part) and did a stellar job of singing "Happy Birthday." Unfortunately the top layer of the cake split open for some unknown reason (sorry, no picture) and so it was deemed the "San Andreas" cake! So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY again to my sweet Tim!

Pictures, Pictures!

Here are bunch of cute pictures of 2 month-old Gavin. We took professional pictures today so I had to get him to practice! HA!

And here is Ben's first attempt ever at taking a picture (the one below with Gavin and me in it). I think he did pretty good considering... Nothing that a little cropping wouldn't help out!

That's all this time. Mostly just pictures. Have fun!!

We had a fun 4th this year - we had friends and family over while Tim and his brother Brian "smoked" (a.k.a. bbq'ed) some chickens (beer can chicken that is) and sausage. We also attended the Arlington 4th of July parade in the morning. Ben had fun watching the high school bands and the firetrucks. Here is the Martin H.S. band (we got there too late to see Lamar, Tim's Alma Mater) and here is Ben clapping for them...Luckily the weather held out most of the day except for one downpour, so we were able to enjoy the outdoors a little bit despite the humidity. During the parade we found a spot in the shade that had a little breeze and Gavin and I hung out there while Tim and Ben went to get a closer look at the festivities. I didn't have any red on so I dressed Gavin in all red and said since we are together most of the time anyway, he could be my "red!" HA!The boys played (Ben, friends Ethan and Daniel and cousin Jack) most of the day so Ben was super tired that night. Tim thinks he was asleep by the time he closed the door! Claudia, Barrie and I were the only woman in the house and we were surely outnumbered! Here's a shot of most of us at the table enjoying dinner. And, if anyone is wondering how it looks around here with all the rain lately, let me show you the river in our park that's around the corner from our neighborhood. Here's a shot Tim took last week off the television news. Yes, it's a picture off of our TV! Anyway, notice the water is basically up to the footbridge when ususally it's a good 8 to 10 feet below, I would say.

Tim had gone out there and taken a picture himself ot the same spot but the water wasn't quite as high when he did, so I thought this was more impressive! Anyway, hopefully we are in for a little break from the rain. I pray for all the people who have lost loved ones or property to all this mess. When it rains it pours!

Lastly, here is a composite picture Tim did of the boys at basically the same age. Ben was 49 days old when his picture was taken and Gavin was 51. See any resemblence? I don't really at this stage, but it at least looks to me that they could be brothers.

MeeMaw's Birthday

On Friday night we celebrated Tim's paternal Grandmother's 90th birthday at Catina Laredo in Dallas. She looks great and continues to have a full life and is such a sweet person. I think 90 may be the new 75! HA! Anyway, we were glad to be able to celebrate such a milestone with her and she was very happy to see Gavin (her 17th great grandchild) for the first time.

Other attendees included some of Tim's cousins that I had never met (even though we've been together for almost 12 years!) and their children. Tim's cousin Jim has a daughter named Macy and she is Ben's age. It didn't take long before they became fast friends, running around the restaurant making mayhem! (In a cute way of course...)
Macy was also quite enamored with baby Gavin and Tim was able to get a nice shot of her holding him. Oh so cute...

So... Happy Birthay to Linnie B. Alguire (a.k.a MeeMaw) and we wish you many more!!

Oh, I also have to post this picture of Ben from Saturday morning. I guess this is his version of "dress up." He has on a backpack full of toys, a borrowed Captain Feathersword hat and my puppy slippers, which he calls puppy "boots" and loves to where around the house. What a character!
